CamPlot Creator vs Shot Designer

Both draw overhead camera diagrams. Shot Designer is a low-cost blocking tool for scripted scenes, with animated actors and a shot list built from the diagram. CamPlot Creator is built for multicam shoots — TV, live events and sports — with each camera’s real field of view from its body, sensor window and lens, ground plans from a PDF, a LiDAR scan or the satellite map, and a live link the whole crew opens free.

Questions

CamPlot or Shot Designer?

Is CamPlot a good alternative to Shot Designer?

Yes, if your shoots are multicam — unscripted TV, live events, concerts or sports — or you need coverage that matches real cinema and broadcast cameras, ground plans from LiDAR or the satellite map, and a live link your crew can open for free. For single-camera scripted blocking with animated actors on a one-time budget, Shot Designer is still a strong choice.

Does CamPlot work on Windows?

CamPlot Creator runs in any modern browser, so it works on Windows, Chromebooks and Android, and installs as an app from Chrome or Edge. There are native apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. Shot Designer has native desktop apps for Mac and Windows.

How much do CamPlot and Shot Designer cost?

CamPlot Max is $49.99 a year or $4.99 a month, with a free trial, and anyone you share a plot with views it free. Shot Designer is free to download; its Pro upgrade is a one-time $19.99 that includes the desktop version. Prices checked October 4, 2026.

Can I bring my own ground plan into either app?

Both import a drawing as the background. CamPlot also scans a room with LiDAR on a Pro iPhone or iPad, and pulls a location off the satellite map already to scale.

CamPlot Studio makes CamPlot, so weigh this page accordingly. We describe every other app from its own App Store listing, website and launch coverage, checked on October 4, 2026 (sources below). If something here is out of date, tell us at support@camplot.studio and we will fix it.
