Privacy Policy

Overview
CamPlot Studio ("we", "our", "us") makes three apps for directors and the camera department: CamPlot Creator, for overhead multicam camera plots; the CamPlot Director’s Viewfinder; and CamPlot Calculators. They run on the web at camplot.studio and as apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and they share one account. CamPlot Studio is operated by Romany Films Inc. This policy covers all three apps and this website. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
Information We Collect
When you sign in to CamPlot using Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from the sign-in provider. We use this information to create and manage your account. Google user data, below, sets out exactly what happens to what we receive from Google.
When you use CamPlot, we store the shows and plots you create, including any background images you upload. This data is stored securely in our cloud database to enable saving, syncing, and sharing features.
We also record simple counts of which CamPlot features you use — for example how many times the viewfinder or a calculator was opened — along with which of our apps you used and what you used it on: the device model and system version (such as "iPhone 17 Pro, iOS 26" or "Mac"), the app's version number, and, on the web, which browser (such as "Safari" or "Chrome"). We never record your device's own name. These are counts only: they never include the contents of your plots, your location, or anything you type. We use them to understand which tools matter most so we can improve them, and they are never shared with anyone outside CamPlot.
If you have CamPlot Max, we also keep a short list of the set pieces you place most often, with your account, so the Set menu can show them first on every device. It holds the names of those pieces and how often you placed them, nothing else, and you can remove any of them from the menu.
How you found us. The first time you arrive we record which website or advertisement linked you here, so we can understand how people discover CamPlot. That is the name of the website you came from (for example "instagram.com"), and any campaign labels we ourselves added to our own advertising links. If you came from one of our Instagram or Facebook ads, Meta adds its own click identifier to the link; we keep that on your device too, and use it only as described under Advertising measurement, below. It is kept on your device until you create an account, then saved with that account.
Visits to our website. When you open one of our public pages (the home page; the Creator, Viewfinder, Calculators, Recorder, Sports, Events and links pages; and our calculator and comparison pages), we count the visit ourselves: which page, the name of the website that linked to it, the campaign label on any of our own advertising links, your country, the kind of device and browser, its language and time zone, whether you tapped an App Store or "open in browser" button, played the tour video or scrolled halfway down the page, and, on the sign-in screen, whether it was shown, which way of signing up you tapped, and the wording of any error it showed you. A random identifier is stored in your browser so that repeat visits can be recognised as the same visitor and, if you go on to create an account, so we can tell which page or advertisement brought you. Your address on the internet is used to work out the country and is then replaced by a scrambled value that cannot be turned back into it; it is never stored. This count is our own and is not shared with anyone; the Meta pixel described below is separate.
Advertising measurement (Meta). On our public web pages we use the Meta pixel, a small piece of code from Meta Platforms, so that Meta can tell us which of our Instagram and Facebook ads lead to visits and sign-ups, and can show our ads to people who are more likely to find CamPlot useful. When it runs, the pixel sets Meta's own cookies on camplot.studio (_fbp, and _fbc when you arrive from a Meta ad) and sends Meta the page you are viewing, your IP address and browser details, and when you tap an App Store or "Start plotting" button, play the tour video, or ask us to email you the link. When someone creates a CamPlot account in a web browser, or asks us to email them the link, our server also tells Meta directly (Meta's Conversions API), sending the click and browser identifiers above, the IP address and browser details, and a scrambled, one-way form of the account number. We never send Meta your name, your email address, or anything we receive from Google or Apple when you sign in, and nothing is sent to Meta from our iPhone, iPad or Mac apps. Meta handles this information under its own Privacy Policy.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, or your device is set to a European time zone, the pixel does not load at all and our server sends Meta nothing about you. You can also limit how Meta uses activity from other websites in your Facebook or Instagram Accounts Center, under Ad preferences.
"Email me the link." If you ask us, on a phone, to email you the link to CamPlot Creator, we store the email address you type and send that one email through Resend. It does not add you to any mailing list. We keep the request for 90 days, so that the same address is not sent the link twice and so we can stop abuse, and then delete it.
App Store ads. The first time you open one of our iPhone apps, the app asks Apple, through Apple's own AdServices framework, whether it was installed after someone tapped or saw one of our Apple Ads on the App Store. Apple answers with the campaign, ad group and search keyword of our ad, or that it was not from an ad; we store that answer with the app's random device identifier and, once you sign in, with your account, so we can tell which of our ads bring people who go on to use CamPlot. The only thing sent to Apple is a one-time token your iPhone creates for this question; nothing about you or your account goes with it, no advertising identifier is read, and no other company is involved. It needs no tracking permission and follows nobody across other companies' apps or websites.
Crash reports and diagnostics. If the Viewfinder stops unexpectedly, the next time you open it we send a technical report so we can find and fix the fault. The report is the screen you can read for yourself at any time under Viewfinder → Settings → Camera diagnostics → Details: your phone model and browser identifier, which camera lens was in use and its settings, how the phone was tilted and which way it was pointing (its compass heading, not its position), the app's recent start-up timings, and the technical trace of what the app was doing when it stopped — which can include error messages produced by the app itself. Sent alongside it are your account, if you are signed in, and a random identifier for the installation so that several reports from the same device can be recognised as the same device.
It does not include your plots, your images, your location, or anything you type. You can turn the automatic sending off at Viewfinder → Settings → Send crash reports automatically, and you can send a report by hand at any time with the Send to CamPlot button on that same Details screen. These reports can only be written, never read back, by the app: they are used to fix faults and are never shared outside CamPlot.
Photos you take in the Viewfinder. A photo you capture is saved to your own device's photo library, and the readings that were on screen when you took it — the camera and lens you were simulating, the exposure, the LUT — are written into the file itself, so the picture still describes itself years later. By default that includes where you were standing, in the same way any camera app records a location, so that Photos and Maps can place the shot; you can turn it off at Viewfinder → Settings → Shot Info → Save location in photos, and separately choose whether the coordinates are printed onto the picture. None of it reaches us. The photo stays on your device. If you attach one to a camera on a plot, the copy that reaches our servers is re-made from the picture on screen and carries no location, no exposure readings and no file metadata of any kind.
Recordings you make in CamPlot Recorder. CamPlot Recorder, our multitrack audio recorder for iPhone and iPad, uses the microphones you plug in (or the built-in one) only while you are recording or watching its meters. Every recording stays on your device, in the Files app under Recorder, until you share or delete it: none of the audio reaches us. The app signs in with your CamPlot account to check that your plan includes it, and keeps that sign-in in your device’s Keychain. It sends no usage counts, crash reports or advertising data.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide and improve CamPlot's services, including authenticating your account, saving your work, enabling sharing with collaborators, and communicating with you about your account or the service.
Data Sharing
Apart from the advertising measurement described under Advertising measurement (Meta), we do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. Your plot data is only shared with other users when you explicitly share it — by a share link, by adding a person by name or email, or, if you hold a CamPlot Enterprise seat, by sharing with everyone in that enterprise. When you add people by name, the search offers only people you have shared with before, people who have shared with you, and the members of your enterprise; it never lists other CamPlot users. A person you share with sees your name and the colour of your account avatar beside the project. We may share information if required by law or to protect our rights.
Emails to CamPlot Support. When you email us, your message — together with the plan you are on, which of our apps you use, and any diagnostics or crash reports from your devices — may be processed by Anthropic, the AI provider we use to help draft our replies. A person on our team reads every reply before it is sent to you.
CamPlot Enterprise. If your account holds a seat paid for by an enterprise (your employer or a production you work for), that enterprise's administrators can see the name, title and email on your seat, see the titles of your projects, download copies of your projects, and turn link sharing on or off for them, for as long as you are a member. They are told who joined, who was removed, and what was downloaded or shared, in an activity log. You are shown this before you accept a seat. When you leave, that access ends; your projects stay on your account.
Google User Data
This section describes exactly what CamPlot Studio does with the information it receives from your Google Account when you choose Continue with Google. It applies to all three apps, on the web, iPhone, iPad and Mac.
What we access. Only your basic Google profile: your name, your email address, your profile picture, and the account identifier Google issues for sign-in. We ask Google for nothing else. CamPlot Studio never receives your Google password and has no access to your Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, Photos, YouTube or any other part of your Google Account.
How we use it. Only to sign you in and run your account: to create your CamPlot Studio account and recognise you when you sign in again on any device; to show your name and picture in the apps, and to the people you choose to share a plot with; and to email you about your account, your subscription and the service. We do not use Google user data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.
How we store and protect it. It is stored with your account in our database, which is hosted by Supabase. It is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, and the database’s access rules let each account reach only its own data and what has been shared with it. Inside Romany Films Inc., only CamPlot Studio’s administrators can see account details, and only to operate and support the service.
Who we share it with. We do not sell, rent or trade Google user data. It is shared only: with the service providers that run CamPlot Studio for us, and only as far as each needs — Supabase (the account database and sign-in), Resend (to deliver the emails we send you) and, if you subscribe on the web, Stripe (your email address, for billing); with other people in the ways you choose — collaborators see your name and picture on a plot you share with them, and the administrators of a CamPlot Enterprise seat you accept see the details described under Data Sharing above; and where the law requires it.
How long we keep it, and how to delete it. For as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (see Deleting Your Account and Data below), your Google profile data is erased with everything else at the end of the 30-day grace period, apart from the few records listed there. You can also disconnect CamPlot Studio from your Google Account at any time at myaccount.google.com/connections; that stops Google sign-in, but it does not by itself delete your CamPlot Studio account.
Limited Use. CamPlot Studio’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
The same rules apply to the name and email address we receive through Sign in with Apple, including a private relay address if you choose to hide your email from us.
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Supabase, a secure cloud database platform. It is encrypted in transit and at rest, and the database’s access rules limit every account to its own data and to what has been shared with it. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Cookies and Local Storage
CamPlot uses browser local storage to save your session and preferences. On our public web pages, the Meta pixel sets Meta's advertising cookies (_fbp and _fbc) unless your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal or your device uses a European time zone; see Advertising measurement. The CamPlot apps themselves — Creator, the Viewfinder and the Calculators, on the web and on iPhone, iPad and Mac — set no advertising cookies.
Your Rights
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deleting your account permanently removes all your shows, plots, shared links, and personal data from our systems.
Deleting Your Account and Data
To delete your CamPlot account and everything stored with it:
- Open CamPlot (on the web at camplot.studio, or in the iOS, Android or Mac app) and sign in.
- Tap your profile picture to open Account.
- Choose Delete account at the bottom and confirm.
Your account is deactivated immediately and permanently erased after a 30-day grace period, during which you can cancel the deletion by signing in again. Any active subscription is cancelled at the same time.
What is deleted: your account and sign-in credentials, all shows and plots, ground plans, uploaded images and viewfinder captures, backups, shared access and collaboration records, annotations, notes and saved preferences.
What is kept, and why: a record that the email address previously used a free trial (to prevent repeat-trial abuse), any unsubscribe preference (so we continue to honour it), and basic email delivery logs. These retain no other personal data.
If you cannot access your account, email support@camplot.studio from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.
Children's Privacy
CamPlot is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated date.
