How to use it
- Pick the camera, then the recording format — resolution and codec.
- Pick the frame rate and the card size. The time on that card, and the data rate, update as you go.
- On a computer or an iPad, the table beside the result shows this format on every card at every frame rate — click any cell to jump to it.
How it’s calculated
Data rates come from each maker’s published figures (best effort). RAW and ProRes data rates scale with the frame rate from their 24 fps figure; fixed-bitrate codecs — most consumer H.265 — record at the same rate at any frame rate. Cards format to a little less than the size on the label, so treat the numbers as planning figures.

Questions
Does frame rate change the recording time?
For RAW and ProRes, yes — twice the frames is twice the data, so 48 fps fills a card in half the time 24 fps does. Fixed-bitrate codecs record at the same data rate whatever the frame rate.
What’s the difference between Mb/s and MB/s?
Eight bits make a byte: 1,000 Mb/s (megabits) is 125 MB/s (megabytes). Cameras quote data rates in megabits; cards and drives quote speed in megabytes.
Why does my card hold a little less?
A card formats to slightly less than its label, and some cameras reserve space for their own files. The calculator uses the size on the label.
Where do the data rates come from?
From each camera maker’s published figures. If a number looks wrong for your camera, write to help@camplot.studio.
